FREE THEORY TEST TRAINING is available with DVLA online

Learner drivers can take their theory test at any point after they are 17 (and when they have their provisional license.) Although it is only valid for 2 years so there is no point taking it if they aren't planning on learning to drive fairly soon afterwards. Also, it can be easier if they have some driving lessons to develop some driving skills and a sense of hazard awareness before taking the Theory Test.

A great resource for the new official DVSA test is their website, its FREE take a look by clicking this link - DirectGov Learning to drive or ride

Below are links to websites and apps to help you train for the Theory Test online. Within these links you will find everything you need to pass first time. Hazard video's and DVSA questions with website links and apps.

Should I  read the Highway Code

Yes you should. Apps and books may not contain information about road signs, road warnings and basics on the law, instead concentrating on preparation for the theory test and not to becoming a safe driver.
